This book is for every person who has hearing loss or will have it at some time in their life, which includes just about all of us. It is also for their families, doctors, Members of Congress, insurance executives, and Medicare officials who don't realize how much taxpayer money and heartache could be saved if Medicare covered well-performing hearing aids for everyone in need. Scientists have proven that hearing loss increases the risk of dementia (including Alzheimer's) and several other major health issues by up to an astonishing 500%. We are already spending about $250 billion annually on Alzheimer's, which will grow to $1 trillion annually within the next five to ten years.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), only about 20% of Americans with hearing loss use hearing aids. While Members of Congress think that "expense" is the only reason, the book explains the three real reasons and how to overcome them. It is also a guidebook to help readers know what they need to know about hearing loss and hearing aids and how to find hearing healthcare providers who put your interest above their business interests. This information is important because fewer than 20 percent of US hearing aid dealers and audiologists are doing everything they can to fine-tune hearing aids to the exact needs of their patients and customers.
